I’m Dave. This is my family (my wife Jess, and my daughter Evie).
In my day job, I sit at a desk and lead a team of software developers. At home, I’m a husband and a Dad. This blog is an attempt to talk about another part of my life; enjoying the outdoors, often with my family.
This blog began its life many years ago (under a slightly different name) as a way to track my running workouts; when my running died down, so did my desire to write here. A recent upsurge in our hiking and exploration has rekindled the urge, though, so I’m reusing the space to share our experiences.
The blog’s title is an homage to Tolkien’s adventurous Hobbits, but also relates to the fact that to chase down my dreams, I need to be moving. To maintain a healthy family long into my daughter’s adult years, we all need to keep moving.
And with such a beautiful world out there, really, it shouldn’t be hard. Our feet should be eager….
The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.
J.R.R. Tolkien

I just wanted to thank you for your write up about “Alden Bryan Brewster River Trail – Cambridge, Vermont”. We were there today, couldn’t find the trail. Came across your post and we were on our way. Great hike. Thanks.
